About
This programme is framed by two sonatas, the first being the Sonata in B flat major op.21 by Sigfrid Karg-Elert (1877–1933).
Frühling wrote just two compositions for the flute: the Duettino op.57 for two flutes and the Fantasie for flute and piano op.55 presented here, which was originally written for flute and orchestra, though this version is now considered lost.
The Allegretto grazioso in A major for flute and piano (1902) exhibits the humour that is characteristic of Reger. Equally brief, the Romance in G major is also from Reger’s collection of salon pieces and was likewise composed in 1902.
Carl Reinecke (1824–1910) rounds off the programme with his “Undine” Sonata for flute and piano in E minor op.167.
Christina Fassbender studied with Prof. Jean-Claude Gérard in Stuttgart and with Prof. Michael Martin Kofler at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. Besides receiving various German scholarships, she has won numerous prizes, including an award at the German Music Competition in 2001. As a soloist she has performed with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Strings, the Beethoven Orchestra of Bonn and the orchestra of the Komische Oper in Berlin.
Florian Wiek was born into a family of artists in 1972 and has made a name for himself through international concert engagements that have taken him to numerous festivals and concert halls including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Hamburg Musikhalle and the Beethovenhalle in Bonn.
