Ton KoopmanAbout
It is not easy to make a list of Haydn’s organ concertos. At one stage, ten concertos were attributed to him, but now there are some serious doubt as to whether four of them are authentic. In addition, there is the choice of the solo instrument: in the second half of the 18th century, the German word ‘Klavier’ could mean at least four instruments - pianoforte, harpsichord, organ and clavichord. There is some indication that Haydn had the organ or harpsichord in mind for the Concerto in C Hob.XVIII, because of what was written in the ‘Entwurf-Katalog’ which he made of his own works.
As first violinist of the classical London Haydn Quartet, Catherine Manson has performed in venues such as the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Library of Congress, Washington and London’s Wigmore Hall in addition to starting several new concert series in the UK.
Ton Koopman founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1979. The group consists of internationally renowned baroque specialists who meet up several times a year and work together to prepare and perform new and exciting programmes.
