TriphoniaAbout
The language used in the lyrics of songs of women that became popular throughout Europe during the Middle Ages tends to be simple and direct. The songs often incorporate aspects of nature, whilst other prevailing themes may involve the conflict between the upper and lower classes, strife among married couples, and dissension between mothers and daughters, and between sisters. The woman‘s song unfolded in a variety of genres: strophic refrain songs, dance songs, ballads, chanson de toile, chanson de malmarée, pastourelles, dialogues and motets.
Triphonia Ensemble for Medieval Music Berlin was founded in 2004 and studied in Berlin, Amsterdam, Milan and Bloomington, USA. Triphonia utilises a wide range of instruments: romanesque harp, psaltery, medieval recorders, pipe and tabor, stringed tabor, vielle, medieval brass bells, portative organ, hurdy-gurdy, medieval dulcimer, and various percussion instruments.
