About
However, in the 1960s the national orchestras lost interest in performing Norwegian music. If the composers wanted any chance of getting their music played, the pieces had to be short and concise. Baden wrote Intrada Sinfonica as sort of an overture to a romantic concert program and the piece lasts no more than ten minutes. It was premiered at the Bergen International Music Festival with Karsten Andersen as conductor.
This record shows the great breadth in Baden’s symphonic production. He was inspired by everything from neoclassicism (Concertino for clarinet and strings), Norwegian folk dance rhythms (Concert for piano and orchestra) and twelve-tone technique (Variazioni), but between it all one can sense his warm romantic sound and melodic lines. Baden never stopped looking for the perfect form where he could reflect both himself and the time in which he lived, and the critics honoured him for his genuine, personal and expressive works.
