About
When the individual volumes of this project first began to appear in 2001, the continued critical response was excellent. Ligeti himself took an active part in the recording process up until his death, and many of the artists that appear on the set had long-standing relationships with the composer and his work, both in the studio and in concert. Artists involved include Pierre Laurent Aimard, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Schönberg and Asko Ensembles and Reinbert de Leeuw.
Praise for the Ligeti Project:
‘It is good that Teldec picked up where Sony left off in issuing a complete edition of Ligeti’s authorized works... Ligeti can feel well served, and Volume 2 is keenly awaited’ - Gramophone, on Vol.1
‘A superb recording, and fascinating sounds from a contemporary composer who never sounds quite like anyone else, and also writes good notes about his own music. If only all CDs of contemporary composers were this interesting…’ - Andrew McGregor, bbc.co.uk, on Vol.3
‘In the year of his 80th birthday, these are glorious accounts of great 20th-century works… Ligeti continues to explore and colonise new ground voraciously… if Ligeti’s music has a trademark, it is unpredictability…He remains one of the severest critics of contemporary music, as well as one of its greatest composers’ - The Guardian, on Vol.4
