About

As court music director and organist in Halle, Samuel Scheidt (1587–1654) was so well paid that he could do entirely without the income offered by the instruction of private pupils. To lend the younger generation his master’s helping hand, however, he wrote (as did other composers too) a collection of keyboard music that young organists could use for practice.

The Tabulatura nova was first performed in Hamburg in 1624, thus inspiring a whole new generation of organists.

Franz Raml plays the Scherer Organ St. Stephan, Tangermünde and a Harpsichord after J. B. Giusti by Bernhard von Tucher.
