Formed in 2006, the Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum (formerly the Abbey School Choir) is the choir of men and boys that sings regular weekday services in the Abbey. Following the closure of the Abbey School, the role of choir school for Tewkesbury Abbey was taken over by Dean Close Preparatory School, Cheltenham – where all the choristers are now educated – which is now a full member of The Choir Schools’ Association.
The work of the Schola Cantorum has continued the many successes and busy regime of the Abbey School Choir, which, amongst other activities, includes numerous international tours, recordings and broadcasts. In addition to regular concerts in the Abbey, the choir also appears annually at the Pittville Pump Rooms in Cheltenham, and during 2006 made further appearances with Cheltenham Bach Choir.
