About

Even today, Karl Amadeus Hartmann is still one of the most mysterious German composers of his generation. After keeping his compositions to himself whist the National Socialists were in power in Germany, the post-war era did not offer Hartmann the breakthrough he had hoped for, and he continued to repeatedly rework many of his scores. Accordingly, both the works on this CD - the Sinfonia Tragica and the Concerto for viola and piano, are the first recordings.

This disc is also evidence of Marek Janowski’s continued enthusiasm for the music of the 20th century.
