The Sextet op.30 of 1825 marked Onslow’s entry into the world of the miniature concerto. He composed the Piano Quintet op.79 bis during the mid-century, when he was at the height of his popularity: the virtuosity of the piano with its leaps, arpeggios, scales, octaves, and other technical wizardry is remarkable.
