About

When it was suggested that he meet flautist Joachim Quantz, Scarlatti declared that he detested wind instruments in general. Curiously enough, he later wrote prolifically for the flute. Since he had been writing vocal music, mainly opera, for some 36 years his change to instrumental music is even more remarkable.

Yet he increasingly encountered unfavourable opinions about his work, which was considered old-fashioned and hence ‘difficult’. This particularly concerned his preference for counterpoint.

The members of Modo Antiquo have decided to perform these pieces with single instruments for each part for the sake of clarity.
