About

It was in 1556 that the young Orlando di Lasso came to court of the Wittelsbach Dukes in Munich. Duke Albrecht V for a rather long time had been looking for a composer of extraordinary talent and had discovered di Lasso through agents operating in the Netherlands.

The young composer quickly advanced to the post of court music director. A rich repertoire of music for religious services, compiled by his predecessors (including Ludwig Senfl) over the decades, was waiting for him.

On this recording Manfred Cordes and his Weser-Renaissance ensemble perform a Marian Vespers offering an impression of the festive liturgical music presented under Orlando di Lasso at the Munich court chapel.
