About

On this recording, a joyous pre-Christmas performance in the Floral Hall of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden has been captured on CD by Brass Classics. The concert, which formed part of a series by the Royal Opera House Brass Soloists, was given in December 2005 to a capacity audience.

These excellent players were joined by sixteen members of the Chorus of the Royal Opera House, and by the talented young bass Matthew Rose, to perform a wide variety of seasonal music, both vocal and instrumental, under the baton of the ensemble’s Artistic Director Eric Crees

The repertoire ranges from a Gabrieli Canzona, performed from the gallery, to Eric Crees’ witty version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, by way of traditional carols such as In the Bleak Midwinter, and Ding Dong Merrily on High, lesser-known carols including the entertaining Maltworms, Bach’s Three Christmas Choral Preludes, and many more. The concert was rounded of in rousing style with a swinging performance of Eric Crees’ jazzy Christmas Trilogy.
