Reviews

Szigeti was a stylist and one of the greatest and most individual artists of his day and there is no questioning the strength of his personality or the quality of his artistry. They are heard to admirable effect in this outstanding account of the first of the Bartok Portraits, which he recorded with Constant Lambert on one of his first post-war visits to London.

Szigeti’s pioneering record of the Bloch Concerto has long been a classic of the gramophone. A wonderfully serene yet intense performance from both Szigeti and Munch that penetrates to the core of Bloch's masterpiece. Szigeti's nervous vibrato is heard to perfect effect here.

Szigeti’s pioneering version of the Prokofiev D major Concerto with Sir Thomas beecham and the LPO caprures the bitter-sweet intensity of this magical score to perfection.
