“Smells have an unbelievably strong influence on our life. They determine whether we like someone or whether we feel good.”  In David Orlowsky’s case, smells can also give rise to music, since he is one of those rare people who experience acute synesthesia, which creates vivid associations between different senses. “I perceive sounds and smells in a related way – they generally have a visual component for me. There are melodies and sounds that I fall in love with all over again every time I hear them, and I get that same feeling of falling in love when a particularly pleasant smell takes me by surprise.”

Petrichor is the title of David Orlowsky's second album with Warner Classics. Recorded with guitarist Daniel Stelter, the percussionist Tommy Baldu, and keyboarder Lillo Scrimali, they present 11 tracks for 11 distinctive scents and smells that, in Orlowsky’s words “produce a positive reaction in us”. The title refers to the scents and smells produced when rain falls on dry earth, Orlowsky had always liked it, and was delighted to discover that it even has a name: Petrichor.
