About
This album serves to remind us that the music we refer to as "Russian" is in fact a melting pot of many rich, diverse cultures which frequently overlap, and that the greatness of Russian music relies on this. The ongoing war in Ukraine has created a difficult and complex atmosphere for Russian music and musicians alike, but these artists maintain that we need to harness every last bit of music's power to rise above differences; to bring people together, to cross cultural, political, and social divides, and to bring solace and hope.
Praise for James Kreiling on Odradek:
"With scrupulous attention to detail and an insightful approach to the music (James's doctoral research focussed on the late piano sonatas), James captures the composer's idiosyncrasies with a compelling naturalness and an acute sensitivity to the shifting moods and colours, combining muscularity and delicacy... Recommended." - Frances Wilson, The Cross-Eyed Pianist
