About

"Cathartic confrontation of moments of loss, celebrating the beauty of life and love. This album is about giving reverence to where you find yourself now, whether it is pain or joy, rebirth or grief.

"
'Reverence for the Moment' is a continuation from my first album, 'Intrinsic'. It shouldn't be seen as a new beginning, but rather a feeling of being further down a similar path. The last piece in 'Intrinsic' was Spiegel im Spiegel, a piece which I would often associate with a kind of rest and rebirth, and the theme of rest and rebirth is also present here.

"This album has turned into something very personal, making me much more cautious at the start of the project about what I shared. But from texts I have written, to including my own music for the very first time, I've taken the risk anyway. The instrumentation is different too, as I chose to use low flutes in every track on this album. (This means the alto flute, bass flute and contrabass flute).

"The photos in the booklet are almost all taken by me. Most of these images are of nature, which is where I personally find it easier to be present, to heal and to renew.

"Moments are easy to revisit when looking at a photo, but with sound it's different. You can't hold music, or see it. You may be holding a booklet from a physical CD but the music comes and goes, you can only experience it in that moment... and soon it will be gone. In a recording you can rewind or fast forward to your favourite part... a live performance doesn't work like that, and neither does life. It makes us listen, pay attention, be present, be here. Here in this very moment.

"And these moments?
Some we wish to last forever, others we wish to forget.
Often we need a huge reality check to realise what actually matters… it can involve pain, a heartbreak, the death of a loved one…
And if not that then how is it that we learn, that we wake up to see what really is important to us? What are our priorities, our values?
How much of what happens outside our heart-space really matters?
What else is as rare and worth protecting as those we love?
What else is there anyway?"
