Alina Ratkowska (harpsichord)About
Born in Gdańsk, Goldberg, a student of Johann Sebastian Bach and his son Wilhelm Friedemann, went down in history as an eighteenth-century harpsichord virtuoso and a valued composer. Although he left few works behind, his artistic legacy is appreciated in the circles of early music experts.
Alina Ratkowska has been researching and promoting Goldberg's work for years. Initiator of the festival bearing his name, author of a biography on the composer (In the Footsteps of Goldberg) and editor of two of his harpsichord concertos. She is a versatile artist who amazes with her artistry and flexibility in the selection of repertoire - on the one hand, she cherishes the memory of the music of the past, and on the other, she popularises the work of contemporary composers. It is not surprising, therefore, that she was the only one to receive permission from the owner of the collection to include in the album (along with compositions catalogued by Alfred Dürr) the hitherto unknown three-movement Sonata in F major, stored in the Bach-Archiv in Leipzig under the reference number: "Elias N. Kulukundis Collection, Depositum im Bach-Archiv Leipzig, Kulukundis I.3". Thanks to the courtesy of the owner of the collection, the sonata was included in the present recording.
