About

‘This programme is the Re-imagining of Rameau as Organist: not removing any works from the harpsichord repertory, but allowing some of them, arguably the more theatrical, to take on a new life and identity as organ music. An additional spur to reimagining Rameau in this fashion is the practice, enjoined by the composer himself, of making orchestral arrangements of harpsichord pieces, and harpsichord pieces of orchestral works; genres were fluid. The keyboard works in this recording are drawn, with just one exception, from Rameau's two major harpsichord collections, the Pieces de clavecin of 1724 and the Nouvelles suites de pieces de clavecin of 1729/30. Keyboard pieces with distinct programmatic identities have been selected, leaving to one side the rather more abstract dance movements.’ – Edward Higginbottom

Edward Higginbottom is best known for his work as Director of New College Choir from 1976 to 2014. During that period, many recordings of the Choir appeared on the CRD label. He continues to work as a freelance conductor and coach, both in the UK and abroad. His interest in French baroque music dates back to his graduate student days, over the years resulting in numerous publications and recordings in the field (Le Jeune, Charpentier, Fr Couperin, Desmarest, Lalande, Mondonville). He has received from the French government the decoration of Commandeur de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his promotion of French cultural interests.

His son Felix, a freelance percussionist, has taken a different path but also enjoys an international reputation, working in a range of diverse idioms, pop, jazz, contemporary and classical.

Soprano, Holly Teague studied at the Royal College of Music, London, CNSMD (Paris), and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. A versatile musician, she is as at home with delicate 16th-century lute song as she is with Romantic Art Song or 21st-century layered voice and electronics. She enjoys a varied singing career, appearing as a soloist for symphonies, oratorios, concerts, gala evenings, recitals and new music projects in addition to stage work in the UK and internationally.
