Undoubtedly, this composer-accordionist has been inspired by the instrument itself – many of his ideas are organically derived from the instrument's isomorphic keyboard, accordion- specific bellows techniques, or its sound capabilities.
This album with its stylistic variety abundance of original ideas and references to various musical idioms, is an interesting review of the Mądrawski's artistic output.
Concerto no.2 for accordion and chamber orchestra, which opens the record, resonates with problems of the modern world, but retains its typically virtuoso style by giving the soloist an opportunity to demonstrate their skills. The source of inspiration is clearly stated in the dedication to the poignant Movement II – 'in memory of Covid-19 victims'.
Cadenza is an excellent study of the textural and technical capabilities of the concert accordion. This piece, with its loose structure, contains fragments which are starkly contrasted in terms of tempo.
Ballada reveals inspiration from Frédéric Chopin's music. The piece's narration isn't short of romantic gestures and its structural organization is based upon the juxtaposition of the marzurka-like theme with atonal virtuoso passages.
Without Title for violin and piano crowns the album. It begins with a solemn Adagio, dominated by counterpoint of highly chromaticised musical material, which unexpectedly turns into a klezmer-like Allegro full of lightness and humour.
