Janina Fialkowska (piano)About
This latest recording was made at Palais Montcalm in Québec and features two Chopin Polonaises, op.40; three Preludes, op.28; two Nocturnes; the Ballade no.1, op.23; the posthumously published Valse in A minor; the Berceuse, op.57; the Scherzo no.3, op.39; and the Grande valse brillante, op.18 – the composer's first and best-known waltz.
For over 50 years, concert pianist Janina Fialkowska has enchanted audiences and critics around the world. She has been praised for her musical integrity, her refreshing natural approach and her unique piano sound, thus becoming "one of the Grandes Dames of piano playing" (Frankfurter Allgemeine, 2015). Born in Canada, she began her piano studies with her mother at age 4, continuing on in her native with Yvonne Hubert. Fialkowska has received her native Canada's highest honours, including "Officer of the Order of Canada", the "Governor General's 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in Classical Music", as well as three honorary doctorates. She passes on her considerable musical experience in master classes and at her annual "International Piano Academy" in Bavaria, where she now resides.
Fialkowska is a frequent juror for the world's most prestigious piano competitions. In 2021 her autobiography, A Note in Time, was published to universal acclaim (Novum Publishers) and is now available worldwide.
