About

This CD presents the celebrated Sonatas 'Il pastor fido', recorded here for the first time on the musette, the instrument for which they were produced.

Published in Paris in 1737 under the name of Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) by Jean-Noël III Marchand (1700-1781), the sonatas 'Il pastor fido' were greeted with enthusiasm when they were rediscovered in the twentieth century by flautists, oboists and violinists in search of baroque repertoire. They were thus the subject of numerous recordings, in particular with the recorder, an instrument that is not named explicitly on the title page, but whose range corresponds to that of the musette for which these sonatas were originally realised.

Jean-Pierre van Hees is one of the founders of the revival of the musette, reintroducing the instrument to the international musical scene in the 1980s via chamber music and in opera, with renowned ensembles including the Orchestra of the 18th Century, Les Arts Florissants, Le Concert des Nations, Les Agréments, Stradivaria, Les Ambassadeurs, La Chapelle Harmonique....

Luc Ponet is titular organist of the basilica in Tongeren, organist-in-residence of Alden Biesen Castle and city organist of Leuven. He is professor of organ at Leuven University College of Arts - Lemmens campus and the music director of the Bach Academy Alden Biesen (choir and orchestra, on period instruments).

The Franco-Dutch viola da gambist/cellist Ronan Kernoa completed his musical studies at the Conservatoire National de Région de Rouen obtaining first prizes in both cello and chamber music with the greatest distinction. Having acquired an early interest for ancient music through his father, a musicologist and lutenist, he attended the classes of Claire Giardelli and Jaap ter Linden, after which he decided to specialise in historically informed performance for string instruments.
