About

Composer Maria Lithell Flyg is releasing a new album with a selection of her chamber music. This time, Lithell Flyg has chosen to collaborate with soprano Lisa Carlioth, Martin Sturfält (piano) and musicians from the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra: Johanna Sjunnesson (cello) and Niklas Andersson (clarinet). In four heartfelt and expressive songs, Maria Lithell Flyg has been inspired by the poems of four female poets. In the songs, music is given to the rumbling volcano in Greta Sundberg's Ascension, the stillness and silence of nature on a starry night as conjured up in Edith Södergran's The Stars, the passion in Karin Boye's You are my purest consolation and the fragility of life in Wisława  Szymborska's Could have.

In addition, the title track Longing is a selection of poems from Lotta Lotass's New Poems. Here, the melancholy of Swedish folk music is mixed with a more dramatic expression together with the mezzo-soprano Ivonne Fuchs, the vocal ensemble Vokalharmonin, a string quartet consisting of Filip Gloria (violin I), Alva Press (violin II), Erik Holm (viola) and Anderas Lavotha (cello) as well as the musicians Lisa Grotherus (clarinet) and Lisa Långbacka (accordion). All under the musical direction of conductor Fredrik Malmberg. The Swedish woodwind quartet Stockholm Wind Quartet also interprets the piece On the Slopes of Mount Vesuvius with empathy and technical precision. A highly personal album with music by one of Sweden's most interesting composers, performed by excellent Swedish musicians.
