About

This album shows both a particular and universal musical spectrum – it is contemporary music from the heart of Europe, created by a group of composers associated with the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

Each of them represents their own approach to the musical matter and compositional art, and yet this music has a common, joint voice, expressing, according to the title announcement, unity in diversity. The compositions have been created recently; some of them, such as Multimirrors for piano and symphony orchestra by Kamil Cieślik, inspired by, e.g. Baroque techniques, whose world premiere we feature on the album, were born at the beginning of this decade. Each of the pieces was created under the influence of various inspirations both in the world of music and in the surrounding reality.

Moira by Marek Czerniewicz for brass sextet with symphony orchestra evokes echoes of a Polish folk song combined with classical music cultivated at the author's home, reflecting his cultural heritage. Tadeusz Dixa, in turn, draws on the contemporary phonosphere in his Overture for symphony orchestra, not escaping such influences as jazz harmonies or even popular music. Andrzej Dziadek, in turn, revives the convention of the Viennese waltz in a completely new, symphonic and surprising version.

Piotr Jędrzejczak referred to the atmosphere of the 1960s while writing his Music for Flute and String Orchestra, highlighting in his work primarily the tone colour qualities of the flute and the accompanying string instruments.

The album is crowned by Wszelki wypadek... (Any Case...) for soprano and chamber orchestra by Krzysztof Olczak. The textual layer is based on the brilliant poem by the unforgettable Wislawa Szymborska, a Polish poet and Nobel Prize winner. The composer's music follows not only the content of the poem, but also the melody of the language. The performers include artists associated with the Gdańsk music community.
