About
Kasper Rofelt (b. 1982) is a student of Bent Sørensen and Per Nørgård. His music often relies on small collections of materials and a large amount of repetition as well as a big musical curiosity and imagination.
The ‘dichotomy’ of the title work on the album refers to an opposition of musical techniques. Its two contrasting movements reflect its title: a playful, lyrical first movement and a rhythmically energetic second one.
The dichotomy and explorations of continuity and discontinuty are generally central to Rofelt’s aesthetic, and the challenge of combining contrasting and even incompatible materials can be heard on this album.
Sérénade pour Ionesco is the only work on the album with an extra-musical inspiration. It’s inspired by the strange juxtapositions of the absurdist style of playwright Eugène Ionesco.
The Danish Chamber Players was founded in 1991 as one of the five Danish ensembles which between them provide a more substantial presence of professional classical music in otherwise sparsely covered areas of Denmark.
