"In my works, it is important to me that the composition resembles a living organism in which the actor – the instrumentalist – moves freely alongside the electronic sounds and does not passively execute prescribed actions, but rather becomes a poet." – Chengbi An
Born in 1967, the composer Chengbi An studied in Shanghai and Paris (with Gérard Grisey, among others) and now lives in Berlin. His preoccupation with electronics, but also with the phenomena of sound itself, shapes his music, as do extra-musical influences such as techniques from the visual arts.
