Conductor
Mariss JansonsAbout
Mariss Jansons was held in high esteem by the musicians of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks – more, perhaps, than any other conductor. He was loved by his Munich audience, and adored by fans in international concert halls from Tokyo to New York.
Slipcase in LP format with 4 sections for the discs. The mini LP sleeves all have the original covers on the front. On top there is a 72-page booklet in LP format.
The booklet includes, for example, the laudatory speech by Thomas Hampson at the award ceremony for the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2013, introductory texts, an interview “Der Taktstock”, artist biographies in English and German, extensive visual material and a detailed track listing, also containing several explanatory texts on the recordings and on Mariss Janson’s relationship to the works.
The following productions are new:
- Bruckner: Mass no.3
- Mahler: Symphonies nos 3, 4, 6 & 8
- Mozart: Requiem
- Pärt: Berlin Mass & Poulenc: Stabat mater
- Shostakovich: Concerto for Piano & Trumpet and Symphony no.9
First on CD (digital only before):
- Tchaikovsky: Romeo & Juliet, Stravinsky: The Firebird and Varèse: Amerique
Conductors in Rehearsal: 3 CDs
Mariss Jansons’s instructions in German, including his opening speech at the first rehearsal with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks: e.g. Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique, and rehearsals for the concerts on 23 and October 2003 at the Philharmonie im Gasteig, Munich. One can experience first-hand how Mariss Jansons’s wishes and instructions are implemented, how his explanations and his temperament change the resulting sound, and what concepts lie behind the interpretation of the work. With this recording, the special collaboration between Mariss Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks has been successfully documented.
