About

In 1799, Haydn undertakes the composition of a six quartets series dedicated to the Prince Lobkowitz, who was to be the patron of Beethoven. The two quartets op.77 no.1 and 2 are the first outcome of this project.

Kept busy by the composition of his Seasons and of the Harmoniemesse, Haydn couldn’t complete the entire work but left, as he passed away, two fragments of a third quartet, unachieved, which compose the op.103. These three last quartets, bold and full of wit, are the final goodbye of the old master.

Underlying the handover between two generations of composers, this programme pays homage to the Pražák Quartet, which continues its mutation started in 2015 and opens a new chapter in its history.
