About

This music was composed for a festive performance of Faust on the occasion of Goethe’s 80th birthday.

Performed at the court theatre in Weimar in August 1829, the local music director Carl Eberwein (1786-1868) composed incidental music, which not only has the advantage that the poet knew, appreciated and promoted the composer very well, but also that it was composed ‘under the eyes of Goethe’.
