Florian Uhlig (piano)About
Schumann wrote variations all his life; the variation form was a central 19th-century genre, notably in the field of piano music. He sometimes avoided the title "Variations" for his early works, because the genre had acquired a bad name for itself. The shallow and superficially brilliant variations - usually on popular opera melodies or songs - that were all the rage in the 1830s, represent the antithesis of Schumann's efforts to master a form that offered ample scope.
Florian Uhlig was born in Düsseldorf. He studied in London at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Florian Uhlig made his orchestral debut at the Barbican in London in 1997. Since 2019 he holds the position of a Professor of Piano at the Musikhochschule Lübeck.
