About

Supertrain Records is proud to present the debut album by violinist Chase Spruill in celebration of master English composer Michael Nyman on the occasion of his 75th birthday in March 2019. This new recording of Yamamoto Perpetuo for Solo Violin is the first recording widely available on CD.

The piece was inspired by fragments of Nyman’s award winning film score to The Piano. Nyman developed this masterpiece for the solo violin repertoire into a twelve-movement virtuosic showcase for a high calibre violinist. Yamamoto Perpetuo was composed in 1993 for the fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and was based on sketches and deconstructions of a Scottish folk tune. The result is a major 45-minute dance for solo violin.

Chase Spruill is a young American violinist who specializes in modern repertoire. He tours widely and has recorded for Philip Glass’s record label Orange Mountain Music. This release of Yamamoto Perpetuo, in celebration of Michael Nyman’s 75th birthday, marks his solo recording debut.
