About

This splendidly colourful programme comprises pieces often performed by the trio, mainly as encores, pieces that audiences constantly want to hear. This demand led to the highly original idea of making a “CD of encores” in the wonderful acoustics of the hall of St Blaise Abbey in the High Black Forest region of southwest Germany, a CD that presents a series of musical snapshots for relaxation.

The title Memories is taken from the piece of the same name by the young Turkish composer Elif Ebru Sakar, who dedicated the piece to the Meininger Trio in 2016. She has been working with the ensemble since 2012.

At the same time, this CD is the three musicians’ way of remembering past concert tours and performances. Over the past 18 years, the ensemble has worked with great intensity and imagination to expand its repertoire. A number of composers, both budding and established, have dedicated works to the Meininger Trio, whilst the untiring research of Christiane Meininger and the members of her ensemble has led to valuable findings and, in some cases, excursions into unexplored terrain. Some of the works are Impressionist; many are by female composers, a trend that has underpinned the Meininger Trio’s programmes ever since the ensemble was founded. Many different countries are represented by the various composers: Argentina, Australia, Germany, Great Britain, France, Cuba, South Africa, Turkey, the USA and others.

Christiane Meininger, flute, one of “the most musical, emotionally gifted and eloquent flautists of the present day” (Applaus arts magazine), is acknowledged to be the creative mind of her ensemble, with which she is constantly realizing new musical ideas.

Miloš Mlejnik, cello, is one of the most important Slovenian musicians, a cellist with stupendous technique, distinguished by full and noble tone and immense musicality.

Rainer Gepp, piano, “was in the best sense of the word an interpreter of the Romantic era, an artist with consummate playing technique, a performer as well matched to Romantic passion as to the heartfelt reveries of the cantilena…” (Bonner Generalanzeiger)
