About

Highlighting Beethoven's Op.16 Quintet for piano and wind by two of the three sonatas for piano and clarinet, extracted from the work of Johann Baptist Vaňhal, a Czech composer from Bohemia who lived in Vienna from 1762, allows us to linger on the contrasts of the musical life of this end of the eighteenth century by questioning more particularly the transmission of Mozartian musical heritage, made of the talent of the latter, enriched by the contribution and influence of musicians from Bohemia, who "trusted" the Viennese musical education and, in fact, helped shape the gift of the Austrian composer (Myslivecek) as Tobias Pfeiffer, another Bohemian pedagogue, the one of the precocious Ludwig.

"Here we have a very good interpretation on a modern piano (Vanhal's sonatas), and then, face to Vanhal, we discover the Beethoven Quintet for piano and wind composed at the same period. The interpretation remains there at a very high level!" – Marc Vignal, Classica magazine, April 2017
