About

Critically acclaimed for her rich voice and masterful musicality, French-Canadian mezzo-soprano Michèle Losier presents her first solo recital on the ATMA Classique label.  “I was pregnant with my first child when I chose the songs for this recording. I felt simultaneously calm and overjoyed. I particularly remember the impression the lullaby Dors ami made on me; it deeply moved my maternal heart,” she says. Pianist Olivier Godin accompanies Losier in a programme of French mélodies by Gounod, Massenet, Franck, Bizet and Saint-Saëns.

Michèle Losier has distinguished herself in many opera roles including Ascanio (Benvenuto Cellini) at the Dutch National Opera, Medea (Charpentier) at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Lille Opera, Prince Charmant (Cendrillon) at Opéra-Comique, Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at Teatre del Liceu and in Tokyo, Charlotte (Werther) at Opéra de Montréal and in Sydney, Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) at Wiener Staatsoper and Théâtre royal de la Monnaie, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) at San Francisco Opera, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Royal Opera House and at the Salzburg Festival, and Siebel (Faust) at the Metropolitan Opera.

In concert, Losier’s repertoire includes the major works from Berlioz, Beethoven, Mahler and Ravel. Michèle regularly performs in recitals, where she demonstrates her fondness for French music. She has recorded Gounod’s La Colombe with the Hallé Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder, Berlioz’s Romeo and Juliet with Sir Andrew Davis and the BBC Symphony, and Duparc’s mélodies with pianist Daniel Blumenthal.
