Arthur SchoonderwoerdAbout
As they have already done on their previous issues, the aim of Schoonderwoerd and his ensemble Cristofori here is to liberate Mozart's works from traditional 19th-century sound concepts. Each string part in the orchestra is played by just one performer; the result is a very slender, transparent sound that supports the solo instrument without ever obscuring.
“those with more carnivorous tastes will not feel sated, but for some of those who appreciate what Schoonderwoerd is trying to do for Mozart, there may be no going back - this is what Mozart's piano concertos should always sound like.” - MusicWeb International, 26th August 2013
“A scrupulous labour of love, using a fortepiano as close as humanly possible to Mozart's.” - BBC Music Magazine, June 2012 ***
