About

Born in New York, the Greek-American soprano Maria Callas was one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century. Critics praised her bel canto technique, wide-ranging voice and dramatic interpretations. This release presents a classic live performance of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, recorded by the singer in 1955 in the company of celebrated Italian tenor Giuseppe di Stefano (1921-2008), with whom she collaborated in multiple operas, and Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989). As a bonus, the label has added selections from four Puccini operas recorded by Callas in 1954.

Opera in 3 acts recorded live in Berlin, 1955, plus bonus tracks recorded in London, 1954

Bonus tracks: Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Tullio Serafin
