About
Gabriel Pierne contemporaries considered him one of the most important defenders of the French spirit. Upon his death, on July 17th 1937, he left behind a vast catalogue of over 50 works. Within this imposing collection, one might wonder about the importance of the dozen or so works for violin and keyboard. However, the astounding consistency of these contributions, which fall into three clearly distinct blocks separated by several decades, allow us a glimpse of the deeply representative nature of his body of work.
This recording does more than introduce the listener to these scores, which brilliantly combine the purest musical art with listening pleasure: it is an invitation to journey to the very heart of this master's underrated art.
