About
This 2-CD set features one of the great popular tenors of the 20th century, Fritz Wunderlich, singing arias, duets and scenes from operettas by Franz Lehár, Johann Strauss, Emmerich Kálmán, Leo Fall, Robert Stolz and others.
Favourites such as Dein ist mein ganzes Herz, the Volga Song, Freunde, Das Leben ist lebenswert (Friends, this is the life for me) and Grüss mir mein Wien (Vienna mine) can be heard alongside popular songs from the 1950s and 60s. Some of these recordings are being issued for the first time.
Taking part in these recordings with Fritz Wunderlich are memorable names from the musical world of that time, such as Antonia Fahberg, Ernst Stankovski and Franziska Wachmann. The conductors are several of Wunderlich’s regular collaborators including Franz Marszalek, Hans Müller-Kray, Willi Stech and Emmerich Smola.
As an extra treat, Wunderlich the trumpet player can also be heard in this collection, performing the Little Cowboy Song from Kálmán’s ‘Arizona’.
