About
Although Rudolf Mauersberger, who over more than four decades directed the Kreuzchor in Dresden, saw himself first of all as a church musician, and not that much as a composer, he was composing throughout his working life. Following the particular demands of each post, he wrote motets, choral arrangements, introits and other liturgical music, as well as arrangements of chants and folk songs, including concert-length works for the Kreuzchor. With few exceptions, the composer's work only received wider attention within the musical world after his death.
Enrico Langer presents on this CD the first recording of Mauersberger's complete works for organ - on an instrument which the composer himself knew very well, the Walcker organ at St Annen in Annaberg-Buchholz. The three works for organ, created within his years in Leipzig, are accompanied by two choral arrangements for wind ensemble.
