Giorgio Koukl (piano)About
This eighth and final volume of the complete Tcherepnin piano music series is devoted to music for children. It ranges from the optimistic Sunny Day from 1915, which the composer found and copied out on the day he died, and the vibrant Episodes, which he brought with him to Paris when exiled from Russia, to the devotional beauties of Histoire de la Petite Therese.
Alternating the wistful with the highly energetic, the three Suites, Op.51 explore the possibilities offered by Chinese musical tradition.
Giorgio Koukl is a pianist/harpsichordist and composer based in Lugano, Switzerland. Born in Prague, he studied at the State Music School and Conservatoire before moving to Switzerland and continuing his studies at the Conservatoires of Zurich and Milan.
On Volume 1: “Koukl proves himself a most sympathetic advocate for Tcherepnin’s music.“ – International Piano
On Volume 2: “Focusing on Tcherepnin’s early years, this volume contains some super music. The performances are committed and energetic.” - BBC Music Magazine
On Volume 6: ”Giorgio Koukl pairs a solid robustness with a palette of rich and subtle timbres; well supported by dexterous fingers, there are clues from the outset of his pianistic fireworks...” – Classica
