St Paul’s Cathedral ChoirAbout
The music on this record comes to you from St Paul’s Cathedral, the majestic setting for so many great Royal Services in recent years.
St Paul’s Cathedral in London is situated at the top of Ludgate Hill, the highest point in the City. St Paul’s Cathedral, designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren, is one of the most famous and most recognizable sights of London, with its dome, framed by the spires of Wren’s City churches. It occupies a significant place in the national identity of the English population as many important services have been held at the Cathedral, such as the funerals of Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, Sir Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher.
Other occasions include Jubilee celebrations for Queen Victoria, and peace services marking the end of the First and Second World Wars, the wedding of HRH Charles, Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, the launch of the Festival of Britain and thanksgiving services for the Golden Jubilee, the 80th Birthday and the Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
St Paul’s Cathedral is a busy working church, with a daily pattern of prayer and worship.
