About
Armenia has a very strong artistic and musical culture, still little known in the West. Mainly based on folk tunes, these works are tinged with the exotic but are overall extremely tuneful, lively and lyrical, Romantic in nature and a good match for the folk dance pieces of Brahms, Dvorak etc - exceptionally fine music regardless of the country of origin.
Armenian/Canadian pianist Patil Harboyan and Heather Tuach, cellist with the Fitzwilliam Quartet, are the ideal interpreters. These works are a valuable discovery indeed.
Apart from the Cello Sonata by Haro Stepanian, the works have been arranged by Geronty Talalyan.
