About
The album ‘Dutch Masters and their Inspiration’ features music by four major contemporary Dutch composers, Robert Zuidam, Theo Verbey, Klaas de Vries and Einar Torfi Einarsson, alongside arrangements of compositions by Ravel, Liszt and Scriabin, composers from the past who have had a major influence on their work. The music is played by the Stolz Quartet, a group that is renowned for specialising in the commissioning and performance of new pieces for oboe quartet.
The Stolz Quartet consists of four highly talented young Dutch instrumentalists - the oboist Marieke Schut, the viola player Liesbeth Steffens, the cellist Doris Hochsheid, and the violinist Jellantsje de Vries.
As well as playing with the Stolz Quartet, Marieke Schut is also oboist with the ASKO|Schönberg, and has worked with major composers of our time, including Ligeti and Stockhausen. She has also been heavily involved in the setting up of the Ligeti Academy, a training centre for contemporary music conservatory students. She has performed with many great conductors, including Claudio Abbado and Leonard Bernstein, as well as with her two teachers, the oboists Heinz Holliger and Heinz Friesen.
