Timothy HamiltonAbout
This is the debut recording of a new choir, founded and conducted by English composer Timothy Hamilton. The inspiration for forming Cantoribus came from a desire to introduce an exciting and contemporary dimension to choral music. From his early days as a chorister at Portsmouth Cathedral, he felt an affinity with singing and the English choral tradition. Later moving into the world of opera, his vision was to create an ensemble of hand-picked operatic voices who also had choral experience.
Hamilton’s bespoke repertoire draws on the sheer power, both physically and emotionally, of the human voice, utilised to its fullest extent. The incredible palette of vocal colour and dramatic range wonderfully demonstrates the versatility of the operatic voice. All the settings are a cappella, keeping the voice at the centre of this recording, undiluted by accompanying instrumentation.
An exciting new choral disc of world-première compositions.
