Norwegian Association of Youth Orchestras (UNOF)About
The recording 'Minuetto Libero' originated with a project in which ten Norwegian composers were commissioned to each write a piece of music for string orchestra lasting three to five minutes. Approximately fifteen youth orchestras have been involved in the rehearsal, development and performance of the music.
The composers have written in their own original style, with no hint of 'watered-down' pieces for children. The result is playful and varied and can be said to be something of an overview of Norwegian contemporary music within all possible genres.
The music consists of short character pieces that emerge as small gems – each featuring extremely interesting musical expression in compact form, direct and distinct. It is a rare occasion when so many composers of such differing compositional styles are brought together on one and the same recording. Here we meet the cream of living Norwegian composers, from Alfred Janson (b. 1937) to Eivind Buene.
