Modigliani QuartetAbout
With 68 works to his credit, Joseph Haydn was not only the founding father of the string quartet, but also an undisputed master of the genre. This influence continued through his direct successors, Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven, through the romantic era and into the 20th century via the second Viennese School.
His music is a constant source of wonder, as evidenced by the three quartets that the Modiglianis have chosen for their second volume on Mirare devoted to Papa Haydn.
“these are remarkably perceptive, stylish and penetrating readings that give this glorious music its full due. For a group that has been in existence for only five years this is an especially impressive achievement.” - International Record Review (MIR065 Haydn String Quartets)
