About
Chinese viola virtuoso Su Zhen is joined by her long-time recital partner, leading UK accompanist Simon Lepper, for this wonderful disc of British viola music.
Renowned both in China and the UK for her beautiful playing, Su Zhen’s career has seen her win many prizes and much acclaim, and she is now one of the world’s leading violists. The two musicians met whilst they were students at the Royal Academy of Music, and their playing on this disc shows the great musical communication born of their long association.
The repertoire is twentieth century, romantic and British, inspired by the famous violist Lionel Tertis, who arranged the Delius sonata, and premiered the Coates and the Bowen pieces. Together with Richardson’s Rhapsody and Blythswood by living composer Samuel, the CD encompasses music from England, Wales and Scotland.
A scintillating disc of romantic British music for viola and piano.
