About
The (in)famous Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy New York socialite who fancied herself a coloratura soprano. In making five 78s between 1941-44, she blithely thrust aside rehearsals, the niceties of volume and pitch and considerations of acoustics. Time wrote of “Mrs Jenkins’ night queenly swoops and hoots, her wild wallowings in descending trill, her repeated staccato notes like a cuckoo in its cups.”
RCA reissued them on LP in 1959, and Sony Classical Originals makes them available again on CD, and in a new transfer.
