Alban Berg Quartet
About
Renowned for its precise and virtuosic interpretations, the Alban Berg Quartet was recognised as one of the greatest chamber ensembles of its time by critics and audiences alike. The quartet founded its reputation on consummate performances of the core Austro-German repertoire – represented in this set by magisterial Beethoven and Brahms and ‘marvellously played and breathtaking’ (Gramophone) Schubert – but was also revered for its tireless advocacy of new music such as the colourful contemporary works by the likes of Piazzolla and Schwertsik, also heard here.
Alban Berg Quartet:
- Günter Pichler, violin I
- Gerhard Schulz, violin II
- Thomas Kakuska, viola
- Valentin Erben, cello
