Leading chamber choir Accentus present a new audacious project, dedicated to Janacek and the works he composed for children. A colourful, melancholic and delicate musical universe.
“The Czech composer Leoš Janacek (1854–1928) is best known to the general public for his dramatic works, notably the operas Jenufa, Katya Kabanova, and The Cunning Little Vixen; such orchestral pieces as Sinfonietta and Taras Bulba also enjoy considerable popularity. However, his unique musical language, influenced by his long and painstaking study of the sonic aspects of speech in many different situations and milieux – what the composer called ‘speech-melody’ is also reflected in other areas of his output that are equally worthy of our admiration. Among his other major sources of inspiration were folksong – the composer’s substantial contribution to collecting and preserving this heritage is well known – and the Russian culture he so fervently admired. ...Janacek dedicated himself throughout his life to the composition of vocal works for chorus or soloists, which enabled him to try out numerous combinations of forces, from a cappella choruses though choral works with instrumental accompaniment to cantatas for soloists, chorus and orchestra.” [from the booklet note]
