About

This beautifully presented 2 CD set is packaged into a book which documents the history of the beautiful Gewandhaus in Leipzig. The book contains photographs of the venue, the performers, programmes from concerts etc, which together form a wonderful history of this iconic venue and orchestra.

The CDs contain historical recordings of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig - recordings from 1929 until 1945, most of them published for the first time, including one of the earliest known recordings in the Large Hall of the Second Gewandhaus ('Freischütz' Ouverture, recorded in 1929) and some extremely rare recordings in the New Theater Leipzig (this theatre was destroyed in WWII).
